In 2006, a dozen people across Kashmir lost their lives in 70 incidents of what is being termed as the man-animal conflict .These deaths led to the retaliatory killing of 25 wild animals, mainly leopards, across the valley. The situation can only be expected to worsen as an ill-equipped Wildlife Protection Department tries to come to grips with the situation.

Update: According to this news report , as per statistics of Wildlife Department, 99 people were killed and 263 wounded in different incidents of man animal conflict in Varmul, Bandipora, Kupwara and Budgam during the past 13 years.Watch this space...
